MANILA – The decision of ABS-CBN management to pull the plug on popular noontime show “Wowowee” drew mixed reactions from the Kapamilya network’s avid followers.

The online community, in particular, has been flooded with comments following the announcement of ABS-CBN on Tuesday.

Some lauded the network’s executives for implementing a “long overdue” decision as they described it as a “wise move” and “good decision.” Willie Revillame, the show’s main man, was not spared from harsh criticisms.

“This is a good move on the part of ABS-CBN management. They only showed that they cannot be threatened by anyone even though their talent is raking money for them. Good luck to your new noontime game show. With Kris Aquino as one of the hosts, surely this game show will go a long way,” handle alexjm_ph posted on abs-cbnNEWS.com.

The new game and variety program, “Pilipinas Win na Win,” to replace "Wowowee" will premiere on July 31. It will be hosted by Aquino, Robin Padilla and "Wowowee" female hosts Pokwang, Valerie Concepcion and Mariel Rodriguez.

An abs-cbnNEWS.com reader, with username ourphilippines, noted that the tandem of Aquino and Padilla is “a perfect match for our kababayans.”

“Great applause for ABS-CBN for moving on to the next level…. Kris may be of help to see the real masses and Robin as a true person who has the heart for Filipinos,” ourphilippines wrote.

Mobster also wrote: “Thank you ABS CBN for making a wise decision, but it would be better if you fire Willie completely and never give him a chance to be on TV again, this arrogant guy never learned his lesson.”

“I'm glad that this next show is a good combination of talent, humility and fun,” Magpakatotoo also noted.

Others, however, were sorry to see “Wowowee” and Revillame go.

“Kahit mayabang si Willie marami din napasaya na tao lalo na sa ofw, kayo mayroon ba kayong napasayang tao,” audie commented on abs-cbnNEWS.com.

Pdumaplin, meanwhile, would continue to follow Revillame because “he makes me laugh when I’m watching him on TV.”

“I dont care if willies mayabang or not, i dont care about his personal life, as long as he makes me laugh when im watching him on tv, i will still watch him over and over again, LOLZ,” pdumaplin wrote.

Amid the criticisms, reader michelleg came into Revillame’s defense. Michelleg pointed out that the controversial host “did not wrong” but defend his show and its contestants.

“There is no other host that can compare to the wonderful, warm hearted, kind, loving person that Willie Revillame is,” michelleg wrote.

In May, Revillame went on indefinite leave following an outburst on "Wowowee" where he threatened to leave the show. It was triggered by fellow Kapamilya talent Jobert Sucaldito’s alleged non-stop criticisms of the noontime show.

Recently, speculations about Revillame’s return to “Wowowee” have spread. He would supposedly make a comeback on July 31.

Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, has put all speculations to rest after announcing that a new show would replace “Wowowee” on July 31.

“'Pilipinas Win na Win' will replace 'Wowowee.' Willie Revillame, through his manager, was already informed about this new development. He was also notified about the new program being planned for him and this will be announced in due time,” he said.

“It is a game and variety show that will surely bring joy, energy and hope to Filipinos all over the world,” Osorio added. abs-cbn news
