LOS ANGELES --- Before Charice's Botox brouhaha, we spoke to the creatorwriter of the top-rated show "Glee." When we interviewed Ryan Murphy in Cancun, Mexico during a press junket for "Eat, Pray, Love" -- where he directed Julia Roberts – he talked a great deal about Charice.

"I knew of her because she was in Oprah and I had seen those clips," Ryan said. "One of the producers of the show heard of her and met with her. Then I had to meet with her. She's so tiny and cute. I had heard her album. But when I met with her, she said, 'Do you want me to sing for you?' I said okay and she opened up her laptop and she had a demo. She hit play and she sounded like Mariah Carey. She was in my office for halfan- hour."

"When that girl opens up her mouth, sort of angels fly out," he added. "I was just very taken by her. I loved her spirit. I loved the story of her and her mother. She was just so proud telling me that she bought her mother a house. So it went from just being a meeting to oh, I got to put that girl in that show somehow. So we are writing her a real good role."

Ryan disclosed further, "She's going to start in the first episode back, I am really happy. I am really proud about how we cast that show. I think it is the most diversified cast on television. I think it is the most international cast on television and that is just one of those things where somebody walks in and you are just so touched like I have to write something for you so that is how it happened."

Asked if there will be a recurring role for Charice for the next season, Ryan admitted, "You never know with that show. But Charice sort of has the size that Jonathan Groff's character (Jesse St. James) had this year, that kind of like not in every episode but in a lot of them. She is really the rival to the Lea Michele character (Rachel Berry). I wanted to do sort of a diva-diva off thing so that is what she plays."

Ryan, who is also the creator of the TV show "Nip/Tuck," created "Glee" because he wanted to do something happy and fun for a change. First conceived as a film, the Golden Globe winner for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy is about a high school glee club called "New Directions" at the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. It was renewed for a second season that is scheduled to begin on September 21.

Ryan, who selects the series' music, has already successfully featured songs of Madonna, Lady Gaga, Olivia Newton John and Journey among others. The music of "Glee" has been a commercial success with over seven million digital sales.
