ILAGAN, Isabela – Baguio City won four gold medals in boxing while Laguna’s MagvrylleMatchino won her third gold medal in athletics at the close of the 2019 BatangPinoy Luzon leg here.
Kate Gacag ruled the junior girls light flyweight, Sarah Garwageo won the junior girls flyweight, Liezel Chavez dominated the junior girls bantamweight and Jamie Talewan Jr. took the junior boys bantamweight in the boxing matches held at Brgy. Bagumbayan covered court.
Matchino, on the other hand, teamed up with Janine Dauba, Evita Belloso and Kyla Elona to help Laguna capture the girls 4x400m relay at the Ilagan Sports Complex in 4:17.00. She earlier ruled the girls 2000m steeplechase (7:40.7) and the 4x100m with the same teammates (52 secs).
At the Xentro Mall lobby, Allan Gabriel Hilario of Pulilan, Bulacan edged Tanauan City’s Gladimir Romero in a dramatic playoff match for the gold medal in the blitz event of the boys 12-under division.
Playing white, Hilario won in a Sicilian showdown after he and Romero finished tied after the tiebreak.
Mark Jay Bacojo added another mint in Dasmariñas City’s war chest by ruling the boys 15-under blitz event, giving the city its seventh gold medal.
Other winners were Kaye Regidor of Sta Rosa City in girls 12-under blitz and Mandaluyong City’s Ma. Elayza Villa in girls 15-under blitz.
Dasmariñas City also captured the boys basketball plum with a 101-97 victory over Mariveles, Bataan at the Ilagan Community Center.
In table tennis, Kheith Cruz anchored Manila in snaring two of the five golds at stake by winning the girls 15-under cadet singles and the mixed doubles with Red Torres.
Naga City reigned supreme with three golds in futsal at the Brgy. Calamagui covered court with triumphs in boys 13-under, girls 13-under and girls 15-under.
Sta. Maria, Bulacan also shone in softball at the Isabela Sports High School ballpark with a 7-3 win over Dasmariñas City while Sta. Rosa, Laguna copped the boys volleyball gold with a 25-22, 25-11 win over Tanauan City at the Brgy. Baligatan covered court.
