After Southland’s wet winter, fields of golden poppies have been popping at Lake Elsinore, a city in Riverside County, about 69 miles Southeast of Los Angeles (an hour if driving non-stop on CA 91). It has become a “golden tourist attraction” and a big headache to city officials due to traffic snarls. KTLA reported that about 50,000 people visited the poppy fields one weekend, which was twice as many visitors as the weekend before, according to Lake Elsinore Mayor Steve Manos.
