Outpouring of love for Pops Fernandez

Pops Fernandez honored in Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD – Peter and Lisa Lew Brennan, and Ted Benito hosted a soiree in honor of the Philippines ‘concert queen’ Pops Fernandez on October 30, at the Brennan residence on Sunset Plaza Dr. Pops brought over 20 of the international judges from around the world: London, Nigeria, Greece, Spain, Australia, Armenia, Vietnam, and Malaysia, to name a few.

Special dessert for Pops’ guests

There is no doubt; Pops was the most popular lady that night. Some of the guest judges PNews talked to had only positive things to say about Pops, from Carlos Latre, an actor/comedian from Spain, who said: “The first time I met her, I was impressed with how elegant she is. Lovely to know her”; to Del Mak from UK whose specialty is choreography; multi-platinum award-winning South African singer/songwriter ‘Lira’;  actress Kate Henshaw from Nigeria; dance choreographer Aaron Cash from Australia, who came with his Pilipina wife Nina from Nueva Ecija; Alex Wright of Korean and Australian heritage, a K-POP producer and talent scout; Petra Sprecher from Switzerland, with expertise as stuntwoman and circus performer; and Dutch Dave Eringa, a record producer who exclaimed: “She’s amazing and very lovely. I can’t believe everyone is so lovely. Thank you so much for tonight.”

Jon Jon Briones, among the guests

“I’m so happy to be among these lovely people,” Pops told PNews. “I’m so honored,” added the singer, actress and entrepreneur (with her own clothing line ‘Pipay”), and thank you, Ted and Lisa.” She came with her son Ram, an animator known for his work on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (2010), My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (2013) and Right Now Kapow (2016) on Discovery Family Channel.

“More… soon!” Pop called out with her sweetest smile. Methinks I saw her wink, too.

Will Pops be among these lovely international experts? We may have to wait a while longer for an official CBS announcement, early next year (or sooner?).

CBS/Warner/MGM is putting together a new reality competition, ‘The World’s Best’ Global Talent Competition Reality Series and looking for 50 global judges.

Nellie Andreeva, Television Editor for Deadline Hollywood reported: “The World’s Best, which had been in the works for awhile, is described as a first-of-its-kind global talent competition that features acts from every genre imaginable, from every corner of the planet. They not only have to impress American judges, but will also need to break through the ‘wall of the world,’ featuring 50 of the world’s most accomplished experts from every field of entertainment. The winning act will ultimately be crowned The World’s Best.”

CBS has ordered the series from Mark Burnett and Mike Darnell, “TV heavyweights, the forces behind two of the biggest talent competition reality series of the current unscripted wave, The Voice (Burnett as executive producer) and American Idol (developed and launched by Darnell).”

The World’s Best is produced by MGM Television and Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television. James Corden will host the reality series and set as judges are Drew Barrymore, RuPaul Charles and Faith Hill. Executive producers are Mark Burnett, Mike Darnell, Alison Holloway, Brooke Karzen, Barry Poznick and Dan Sacks.

“The time has come to take talent competition shows to the next level and bring in judges from around the world to decide on the ultimate winner,” said Burnett. “It’s like the Olympics for entertainment, but you don’t have to wait every two years.”
