WALNUT, Calif. — The St. Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic Church invites everyone to join in the celebration of the feast of the Pentecost.
The festivities will start with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, at 747 Meadowpass Road, Walnut, CA 91789. At the Mass, churchgoers representing about 25 cultures and languages will process in their colorful native attires and will proclaim in their own languages. Led by Pastor Rev. Fr. Tony Astudillo and presided by Bishop Gerald Wilkerson, the Mass will be concelebrated by priests from various ethnicities.
After the Mass, there will be a fellowship where finger foods from different ethnicities will be served as we greet you “Welcome Home” where earth meets heaven.
The Pentecost commemorates the event that occurred 50 days after Easter, when believers from different cultures were gathered together and were speaking in different languages but were able to hear each other in their own native tongue. There was a noise of strong wind as tongues of fire from the sky came to rest on each person, as the Holy Spirit descended upon them. Pentecost is a very important event in Christianity as it is considered the birthday of the early Church.
